6 August
Minister for Local Government Joe Szakacs approved the proposal, after refusing to meet with any of the community on the issue. This now goes back to the City of Marion Council for a final decision, which will be made on 26 August.
6 June
The City of Marion Council finalised and submitted the proposal to the State Government for further approval. Minister for Local Government Joe Szakacs responded saying he has received their submission, but gave no indication when he will be reviewing the proposal.
He also declined to meet with us about the issue. His response then followed the same lines as his previous, stating he will "carefully review" all parts and correspondence.
4 June
Minister for Local Government Joe Szakacs issued a response and update on the proposal's progress, stating that he is yet to receive the request from the Council, but he will "carefully review both the process undertaken by the Council" and "any correspondence [he] receive[s]".
28 May
After a council meeting the previous night, the council voted 8:3 to completely ignore the demands of its people and approved the proposal anyway. They are actively choosing profit over people, the opposite of what the Malinauskas' Labor Government claims to stand for.
The proposal moves to the State Government for final approval; the decision will be made by the Minister for Local Government Joe Szakacs, with no indication of the timeframe before he makes a decision.
26 May
The council released their Community Feedback Report, which showed a 95% disapproval rating from nearly 1,000 responses. Of the 132 people from the immediate surrounding area who responded, only 11 were in favour — 121 were against.
99 of the report's 117 pages are comments from the community submissions against the proposal.
17 April
The feedback submission window for the proposal closed, after being open for less than three weeks.
The council notified only 486 residence out of the over 41,000 in the Marion City Council district by mail, and posted once on social media about it.
